Walk To Support Hospice
Category: General
Posted by: admin

The Community Hospice serves seriously ill people and their families during the process of dying and grieving.
However, the Community Hospice has seen a significant reduction in the money they're reimbursed from Medicare and recommendations currently being considered in Washington call for even more cuts to hospice programs.

They are facing real financial challenges to maintain their operating capabilities, let alone increase them, and therefore are more dependent on your contributions than ever before.

I am Walking for Hospice on Saturday, June 19, and I would like to encourage all who are able to cheerfully donate to the walk.  If you are interested in making a contribution, please contact me at: 371-3103 or Hannah.Hunter@verizon.net.

Thank you for your support!

Peace & Blessings...Hannah

Prayer Shawls Comfort and Celebrate
Category: General
Posted by: admin

By God's grace and mercy, Yvonne Curry, volunteer at TLP Food Pantry and Friend of Oakwood, and I have embarked upon the task of a
Prayer Shawl Ministry.  We meet once and/or twice a week for fellowship as we crochet the prayer shawls, in addition to working on our own.  Any and All are Welcome to join us.
The history of the prayer shawl is not too unfamiliar with congregations.  Since its inception in 1998, the Prayer Shawl Ministry continues to grow, extending its message of hope around the world. Countless volunteer knitters and crocheters now take part in this exciting new tradition of faith.  It is their work that sustains a tidal wave of caring as they turn yarn into wraps that are interwoven with prayers.  Those who receive these handmade expressions of love are buoyed by the spiritual comfort they experience while wearing their prayer shawls.

Matthew 9:20-22
Just then a women who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.  She said to herself,  "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed." Jesus turned and saw her, "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment.

However, prayer shawls are not only given for the recipient's health but in matters of celebration too!
Yvonne and I are hoping that once a month during the Prayer of  Dedication at Worship Service, Oakwood would lift up a prayer for those prayer shawls crocheted.  They could be placed at the altar, held in Rev. Siegel's arms, or worn by recipient. As a matter of fact, four prayer shawls were dedicated at Worship Service on Sunday, April 25. Please know, these prayer shawls are available to members of Oakwood and recipients throughout our community.

We pray that Oakwood will embrace this ministry!

Peace & Blessings...Hannah
